By MALAKANDA KANUMARANABAD, ESPNcricinfo staffA long-awaited win in the home series with Sri Lanka at the Delhi Sports Club has given the hosts a two-point lead in the series with India.
With the match in the balance after Sri Lanka were bowled out for 5 and the third wicket fell to Harbhajan Singh, the team celebrated in a loud manner.
After the match, Sri Lanka captain Kamalithi Srinivasan said the team would focus on their own task and their own performance.
“We have a big game against India and we want to make the most of it.
We will not forget to celebrate and show our appreciation to our fans,” he said.
Sri Lanka’s players have been under pressure since the first day of the series.
They lost the last two matches in Delhi, with Harbhaskar, Anil Kumble, Kumar Sangakkara and Dilip Vengsarkar bowling in their favour.
Srinivasapathy has been the subject of criticism from the players and the media, as they have been disappointed in their performances.
“There is a lot of negativity coming from the media and the players but we are just trying to go about our business.
We have to accept this criticism and we have to try to improve our performances.
The pressure is there.
The only thing we can do is keep fighting,” Srinivansapathy said.”
The first two games were tough but we have a great team and we are going to continue to win.
We can look forward to winning the third game,” he added.
A two-day domestic competition is underway, with the final at the Sports Club.
