By Nirmal Mukherjee, The Washington Examiner Washington (AFP) – Indian yogis will soon have their own free yoga studio in Washington, D.C., and the practice is set to become a model for other nations in Asia.

The YogaWorks program, sponsored by the United States yoga center and the National Geographic Society, is aimed at offering yoga classes and workshops in India.

The program’s launch comes on the heels of an announcement last month by yoga guru Ashish Nehru, who has been visiting India, that yoga would soon be made a compulsory compulsory course at all US colleges and universities.

It will not be the first time yoga has been part of a compulsory curriculum at a university, but it could be the biggest to date.

The U.S. has had yoga classes since the 1950s.
